Can Tea Make You Drunk?

What is being Tea Drunk, and other Thoughts about Tea

The big question is, can tea make you drunk?

When speaking of tea, I am referring to true tea, although I will touch on herbal teas as well.

“True tea is made from the leaves of an Asian evergreen known as Camellia sinensis. White tea, green tea, oolong tea, and black tea all come from this plant, and all contain caffeine.” As quoted from  ChoiceOrganicTeas.com

I’m going to answer the question of whether tea can make you drunk, based on the information I was able to dig up, but first, I want to tell you why I decided to talk about Tea in the first place.

I’m a tea addict, you see, and lately I’ve been considering quitting it all together, which is for me, a painful idea, because I obviously like tea a lot.

The problem is, I tend to overindulge in things that change my state, even to the degree of experiencing pain as a result.

I guess that’s why addiction is not good, even if it’s tea addiction.

When I started looking into the tea question I really wanted to see if there were other people out there that had been addicted to tea, then quit and felt a lot better, or achieved a higher amount of goals.

Basically, I wanted to know if quitting Tea would help me to be a Super Star.

I did find that people who quit tea experience things like:

  • Freedom from addiction
  • Better Sleep
  • Better Mood
  • Decreased Anxiety
  • Fewer Headaches
  • Whiter Teeth
  • Increased Productivity – A result of not spending time purchasing and indulging.
  • A General Sense of more constant well being.

This is where I can relate the most.  Whenever I take a break from drinking tea, after a few days I start to feel better on a consistent basis.

I’m less irritable, I feel how I feel on a deeper level, and generally feel a deeper sense of peace within my body.  I also notice that I breath deeper, and feel more emotionally stable.

You can see some Others Who’ve written about benefits of quitting tea HERE and HERE!

In defense of Tea drinking, it does appear that some conditions such as the following are affected in a good way as a result of drinking tea.

  • Atherosclerosis
  • Parkinson’s
  • Kidney Stones
  • Heart Attacks
  • Blood Pressure
  • Ovarian Cancer and
  • Osteoporosis

So Getting Back To The Original Question, Can Tea Make You Drunk?

It might be more accurate to say that drinking too much tea can cause inebriation.

As quoted from Dictionary.com Inebriation is…

to make drunk; intoxicate.

to exhilarate, confuse, or stupefy mentally or emotionally.

As stated on TeaVivre.com

“If you drink too much strong tea, it can have repercussions on your body similar to drinking too much alcohol, for example you may be troubled by tinnitus (a persistent ringing in the ears), or experience dizziness and fatigue.”

Also:

“If you drink tea on an empty stomach, you will not only dilute gastric juices so that you aren’t as able to digest foods as well, but the high absorbency rate of water in the tea will also cause your body to absorb caffeine easily causing you to experience dizziness, stress and possibly even neurasthenia in your hands or feet.”

I’m pretty sure this is kind of like a restless leg syndrome, but that can be in your hands or feet.

I also found an interesting article by a self proclaimed tea addict, Kegon Teng Kok Tan at Quora.com which gives you a lot of insight into the brain of a major tea addict and what it means to be drunk on tea.

Other important and interesting facts to know about Tea to help you decide what you’re going to do about tea.

At MedicalDaily.com I found out about a compound paper tea bags are treated with called Epichlorohydrin, which is a known carcinogen.

I’ve added a link HERE for you to check where a person has already done the research on some companies that use tea bags that are free of epichlorohydrin.

It’s also good to know that many teas are likely contaminated with pesticides in amounts that exceed US tolerances.  A company called Glaucus Research Group has analyzed some of the popular tea brands teas and found excessive amounts of pesticides in organic and non organic brands of tea.

A last important fact, that will put things in perspective for you about how dangerous tea can be.

10 Grams of caffeine could kill you or cause severe Side Effects, as quoted from WebMD.com

It would take about 111 cups of Black Tea to get 10 grams of caffeine. So in other words, you’re going to have to try real hard if you want to kill yourself with Tea.

Have you ever been drunk on tea.  Please share in the comments section below.

Looking For A Vegan Treat Or New Vegan Meal Idea?

I hope this video inspires you to eat more plant based foods.

Today is day 7 of a 21 Day Challenge where I share with you as uninhibited as possible.

Today I was having a treat that’s controversial in some of the Vegan circles I follow.

Vegan Hot Chocolate.

As you may know from other videos I’ve done, Chocolate can have high amounts of cadmium and lead, even if it’s organic.

For that reason, and it’s a stimulant, I don’t have it regularly.  But…. It sure is a lot better for you than a lot of things you could be putting in your body.

We also enjoyed a typical special vegan brunch.  Potatoes, Tofu Scramble, Garlic Bread.  Hopefully the way we eat this meal is something new and inspiring.

If you enjoy the video, please share this article and leave your comments below.

Wishing you great health. ( -:
