A Movie Adventure

Access Granted To The Source Code

If you’ve found yourself reading this passage, hold onto your self tight. You’ve entered into another dimension and it’s known as the “Source Code.” Jake Gyllenhaal (Captain Stevens) exists here, as in the reality you lived in up till now, but he’s another person, or maybe 2. Since his early stardom in American Pie, Jake’s transformed into another being you’re not so familiar with. Don’t worry, everything is going to be okay.

Before I entered the “Source Code” I was looking at a website reading a review about the movie. I thought I knew who I was, but I hadn’t seen the movie yet. The movie critic, who did the review, gave the “Source Code” 4 stars; That was in another reality; One I was yet to enter.

The beautiful Michelle Monaghan (Christina), had not been fully illuminated before my eyes before I entered the “Source Code.” Michelle plays a role of the person you always knew was out there, but almost lost hope in ever finding. Duncan Jones, who directed the film, and writer Ben Ripley knew you’d been searching for Christina (Michelle) and wanted you to make the connection.

Jake is not who you thought he was, and that’s probably a good thing for him. His acting skills become him in the “Source Code;” as you will become You. Not the you who’s reading this review right now; The You who you are after the “Source Code” has been implemented.

More than honorable mentions in the film are Goodwin (Vera Farmiga) and Dr. Walter Rutledge (Jeffrey Wright). Whether it was the “Source Code” that brought their skills out or it existed somewhere within them is yours to ponder over. It’s sure, however, they both play the roles any film star must envy.

If you’ve been waiting for a good movie to get you out of the house, wait no more. I’m not getting paid to tell you this, but if you don’t like this film, there’s a glitch somewhere in your circuitry. I would tell you more than I have already, but that might destroy the beauty for you. Don’t worry. Everything is going to be okay. You’ll understand after you’ve entered the “Source Code!”

A Walking Adventure

Can Walking Be A Good Therapy?

Walking helps me sometimes.  Read the story below for a little adventure; and walking therapy.

It was about 7:00 that evening when he got out of the car. The kids were in the back and had been making a lot of noise. It was all he could take. Him and his wife had a been debating about her driving habits and she wasn’t ready to change anything. She almost smirked at him when he nagged again that she was driving to fast. “Didn’t you learn anything in all of these years I’ve been asking you to change the way you drive?” That smirk didn’t help things. “Pull the care over,” he said, and that was it. No second thoughts – He was on his way.

He was about 5 miles out of town when the thoughts about what had transpired began to process. For a short time he felt a little angry. I can’t believe she really drove away! Then he knew she had no choice. If she didn’t stop the car he might have jumped out, or at least made it appear he was going to. The anger was like fire and decisions were made. She really didn’t have a choice!, he thought. That thought gave him satisfaction.

He was a little tired but the thought of adventure illumined his mind. That’s what he liked – adventure. He knew he was a considerable distance from town, but any self pity he might have had quickly distilled into the dusk air.

I’m an athlete, he thought, and then wondered whether or not his shoes were fit for the distance. The day before they had talked about the possibility of living outside for the summer. That way they could save some money and visit her parents, in Hungary, in the fall. The thought of living outside had been exiting when they discussed it; Better than going into debt, and it’ll be an adventure. Those were some of the thoughts from the day before.

As he walked those romantic thoughts began to take on a humility. Some how the night air shadowed them with a more realistic understanding of what it meant to live outside. It was very humbling, in fact. As he walked on, everything took on a new meaning. How comfortable life has been for us. It was easy to imagine a fairy tale existence from the cozy, cushiony life inside the house. Showers, refrigerators, clean dishes and beds. How simple it was to prepare food. Working even seemed easier when you had a home, he thought, as he walked on down the highway.

What if a police officer sees me walking here and harasses me? I haven’t done anything wrong. Isn’t it better to be walking than driving anyway? How did it happen that cars had the right of way over walkers anyway, he pondered? Then he decided it was better not to think about negative situations with the police. Everyone should be given the chance to be a good person; Even a police officer. So that was it for thoughts about the police. He crossed the highway and walked on to a frontage road where it seemed a little safer to walk.

There were wild rabbits, and bones of deer here and there along the road. Did animals eat those deer down to the bone? What would he do if a wild animal were to come by him. I’m not afraid, he thought, and that made him feel good.

The air was cool as he walked along, but not cold. The spring was just arriving. The grass had begun to turn green but there were still no leaves on the trees. Living outside would make life a lot different. He thought about his exercise regime and how he used all of that energy to be stronger and faster. That’s all nice as long as you have enough food to feed your body, to help your muscles recover. That reminded him of his 3 year old, and how he was just running and jumping around with no cares about using all of that energy. Then the thoughts came of how comfortable many people live, and take it for granted. He had taken it for granted.

His feet were feeling the walk but he was happy. The night air was just about perfect for how he was dressed and the whole situation was therapeutic to his mind. I won’t be mad at my wife, he thought. That won’t serve any purpose and besides I’m happy to be walking out here. He had thought for a minute in his moments of mild rage, maybe he wouldn’t do his work anymore. He could give his wife and kids the money they had and do whatever came next. That, of course was a fleeting thought, and now he was back on to thinking how fortunate they had been.

There was so much opportunity and every sight along the walk just fed that inspiration. He wasn’t jumping up and down or scheming in his mind. What he really felt, he thought, was somehow everything was good in his life.

Reality seemed to take on some remembered understanding. It shifted and told him things he didn’t care to put words to. The Summer is coming and how beautiful those summer nights were, he thought. This is adventure!

It was special to walk for long distances. You could see everything from a different point of view; Things you didn’t even notice when you drove by them year after year. Even the familiar places took on some nostalgic wonder; especially when the sun went down. He remembered his friend had called earlier and he could call him back, because he had his phone. His friend answered but couldn’t talk at the time. That was perfect because he was enjoying his own thoughts.

A little down the road their was a giant bus with a for sale sign on it. That’s just the kind I like, he thought. Only 10,000 miles. It doesn’t matter if I don’t have much money, I’ll call and ask the price anyway. Moments later the ring was answered by the voice of an older gentleman. “84,000 dollars and it’s immaculate inside,” said the man on the phone. Not likely the lad would be buying something for that price any time soon, but it was fun to imagine; And who knew anyway? Anything was possible!

He was in a meditative state by this time. He felt like he was in a story, and it was being told to him as he lived it. He walked on and saw some familiarities as he drew closer to his neighborhood. There was the biggest, most awesome tree he’d never noticed, but was compelled to touch and say some words to. “You sure are awesome,” he said, as he leaned against it with his palm.

Walking on a little further he stared at a house for several moments before noticing it was the house his cousin used to live in. How much the character of a house changes with a new person residing in it.

He turned the last corner of the walk onto the street where the hospital was, just down from his apartment. Back to the easy life and green smoothies for now, he thought. The phone rang and it was his wife. Would he pretend to be mad? “No,” he thought. “How are you,” said the voice on the line. “Fine!,” was the answer back, almost with a chuckle. That’s what my life is!, he thought, An adventure!

Wild Asparagus Adventure

Wild Asparagus Adventure

In our adventure today, we walked around the rolling hills, outside of Montrose Colorado, to seek out the plant that was eaten by the ancient Egyptians earlier than 3000 B.C. We looked for it and we found it; Not just a little either. With about 4 people gathering we collected at least 10 to 20 pounds in less than an hour.

We had a good time collecting it and were fortunate enough to have time to prepare some for eating after arriving back at our house. It was very tasty and fresh. We managed to find some of the biggest shoots I’ve ever seen.

You can see exactly what I’m talking about in the video associated with this writing. We managed to get some interesting facts from my Aunt and Uncle, who’ve been collecting it for a number of years.

In the video my Aunt Carol says she thinks Asparagus is an antioxidant. She knew what she was talking about. The plant is abundant in the antioxidant rutin, which aids in strengthening capillary walls. It’s also a good source of glutathione; an antioxidant known to be anti carcinogenic.

Asparagus is also moderately anti inflammatory and provides an abundance of vitamin K; It contains 180% of the RDA in 1 cup. The unusual looking plant also contains significant amounts of folic acid, vitamins A and C; and some calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, selenium and potassium.

Erich, my cousin, talks about some theories regarding the funny smell of a person’s urine after consuming asparagus. He’s right on with the information. A study was done involving people who smelled the odd aroma after eating asparagus and those who didn’t. The people who could detect the odor in their own urine could also smell it in the urine of those who couldn’t detect the smell; although studies did show, there is a small percentage of people who do not produce the odorous urine. It has been determined, about 22% of the population lack the gene for smelling the odor.

A Calmer Nervous System Through Earthing

Shop Earthing.comThis article is a result of my personal investigation into how Earthing might help people with imbalanced nervous systems.

It was inspired by a recent conversation I had with a person wondering if Earthing might be able to help her recover from anxiety, she attributed to sensitivities she has to electrical devices and chemicals.

From my learning about, and experience with Earthing, I already knew it has a beneficial effect on the nervous system.

I wanted to see if I could make some more clear connections as to why Earthing has helped some people overcome debilitating symptoms they attribute to EMF exposure, for example.

I’ll refer to the girl that inspired this investigation as Leah for the sake of simplicity and avoiding the use of her real name.

Leah referred me to some information she had been looking at online that is meant to help people with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity and Electric Hypersensitivity Syndrome, among other things.

There were 2 specific programs she had been considering.  They are the Dynamic Neural Retraining System and the Gupta Amygdala Retraining; Both are meant to be helpful for conditions like MCS (multiple chemical sensitivity).

I did discover a common thread of understanding in these systems and how they connect to what Earthing does for the nervous system.

The Dynamic Neural Retraining System and The Amygdala Retraining System are both meant to help a person overcome sensitivities.

On a very basic level, It is  believed by the creators of these programs that the sensitivities of sufferers are attributable to a conditioned response that associates stress with whatever the stimulus is.

For example, in a person who suffers from multiple chemical sensitivity, the individual may have been exposed to chemicals which produced some physiological stress, at the same time they were experiencing some form of psychological stress, such as strong emotions; and their brain created an association between the chemical and the psychological stress.

The creators of the programs say your brain will err on the side of caution to protect you from a real threat.

Although the chemical or other stimulation caused some level of physiological stress, it might not be life threatening; but because it was experienced when you were in some kind of heightened emotional state or psychological stress when you encountered it, your brain created a strong defense to it.

It is then hypothesized that exposures to similar stimulation might initiate the same protective response of the nervous system; leading to conditions like MCS, for example.

It’s a known fact that stress or emotions of fear cause the sympathetic nervous system mode to kick in; initiating the flight or fight response.  In this mode your body prepares for extreme muscular action.

This is where Earthing and the therapy programs listed above cross over in their possibility of helping an individual.

The Dynamic Neural Retraining System and the Gupta Amygdala Retraining focus on helping a person to recondition their responses to particular sensitivities in order to normalize their autonomic nervous system function.  The aim of these therapies is to create new neural pathways in response to the stimulation which creates the undesired symptoms, so a person can function normally again.

As hypothesized, once the person’s limbic system of the brain no longer associates the stimulus with life danger, the sympathetic nervous system is no longer aroused by the chemical or other stimulus, and normal autonomic nervous system function resumes.

It is the returning of the autonomic nervous system to normal function, that Earthing has in common with these therapies.

The difference is in how it gets you there.  When you place your bare feet on the earth or get grounded with some type of earthing device, your physiology changes on many levels.

One of the big changes that takes place involves a switch from a dominating sympathetic nervous system mode to a dominating parasympathetic nervous system mode; the 2 modes being part of your autonomic nervous system.

When your autonomic nervous system is functioning normally, the parasympathetic mode is slightly dominant.

The parasympathetic mode is known as the rest and digest mode; That’s because your body is able to relax and perform normal functions such as eating and sleeping in this mode.

For a person who’s been living in a state of heightened sympathetic arousal for a long period of time, their bodies often break down, because they are not able to relax and recover, and properly digest food.

There are 2 Earthing studies that help explain, in part, how this switch to the more relaxed mode is occurring.

One study revealed a normalizing of cortisol, of people that slept grounded.  You can sleep grounded in the same way as people in the study did by sleeping on Earthing sheets.

Cortisol is known as the stress hormone.  Cortisol is normally highest in the morning around 8 a.m. and lowest at night around 12 midnight.  The rising of cortisol in the morning helps a person to wake up and start the day.

If stress causes cortisol levels to remain high the sympathetic nervous system becomes over active and health can take a dive.

The normalizing of cortisol resulting from sleeping grounded generally helps a person to sleep better and contributes to a balanced autonomic nervous system.

Another Earthing study also verified a shift from the sympathetic nervous system dominance to the parasympathetic.  This study is known as the heart rate variability study.

In the HRV study, of 28 people, including 14 men and 14 women, Earthing was shown to improve heart rate variability.  Dr. Stephen T. Sinatra points out that when the autonomic nervous system is functioning correctly it supports good heart rate variability.

He also reveals that the shift in the autonomic nervous system to the more calming parasympathetic mode follows immediately after you ground yourself.

A Real Story About Grounding

Once you really understand the power of Earthing, it’s not hard to believe what kinds of benefits a person can experience.  Most people are skeptical, to some degree, when they first hear about Earthing and that’s understandable.

There’s so much hype around a lot of products, that are not all they’re made out to be.  Earthing is different.  In the coming months and years the word about it will spread rapidly, as it has already started to reach a broad audience.

Jim and Carol’s Earthing Story

I, Sye Rodriguez, am a health fanatic; and I’m always using myself as a guinea pig to see which natural health lifestyle practices actually work.  My Aunt and Uncle have been a lot more skeptical than I about these practices.

Earthing was something they learned about from me, but it was one of the things they weren’t sure about at all.

It took them about 2 years after first learning about Earthing to try sleeping on an Earthing sheet.  It wasn’t long after they began using it, they became true believers in what grounding yourself can do.

It was only 2 days after they began sleeping on their grounding sheet, we got a call.  They  wanted to meet with my family right away to tell us some things about their experience.

We met with them that day and were pleasantly surprised at what they had to say.  They were very excited; Especially my Uncle Jim.

He told us how he was able to stand up straight for the first time in a long time.  He could bend over and pick things up without any pain or discomfort.  My Aunt Carol and a friend of their family even noticed his posture change, and pointed it out to him.

Uncle Jim had been taking Ibuprofen on a regular basis and now, about 2 months later, he hasn’t taken any since the first night he began sleeping grounded.

His first golf game this year, he noticed he could play better; he could make a full hard swing and it felt comfortable.  He also used to feel stiff and sore after a game; and now he can play without feeling beat up after.

For years my Uncle Jim has had pain in his elbows, hands, back and knees and now he says there might be a little pain or discomfort, but it’s only a fraction of what it was before.

He describes what Earthing has done for him as incredible, and makes the point, it’s the only thing that could be making the difference, because he hasn’t changed anything else.

How will I know if Earthing is working on me?  This is a frequently asked question about the benefits of Earthing.  The answer is different from one person to the next.

It’s pretty typical for people with arthritis and pain to notice a difference quickly.  Some people say their pain is diminished as quickly as 20 minutes after they get grounded.

If you are already extremely healthy, and you feel pretty good in general, your experience will probably be a little more subtle.  Don’t let the subtle differences you feel be mistaken for a placebo effect; Earthing creates real changes in your physiology.

The biggest change I’ve noticed personally is more sound and restful sleep.  I can feel my breath deepen when I lay down on my grounding sheet at night.  There have been some times that I’ve been away from home, without an Earthing device, and that’s when I feel the biggest difference.

Getting used to sleeping grounded has become normal for me, so I know what it feels like.  When I sleep ungrounded, I can feel the static on my body, whereas before I never understood what that feeling was.

These more subtle changes are what you might expect, if you already feel good and only want to add more healthful practices into your life.

Hypertension And Earthing

In case you’re not familiar with Earthing read on.  You may be surprised to learn, the Earth’s surface is brimming with electrons that have the ability to reduce pain in your body and diminish inflammation.

In 1998 Clint Ober made a discovery that is sure to revolutionize the way people think about health.  Our shoes, he thought, insulate us from the ground.  Clint wondered if that loss of direct contact with the Earth might have any health consequences; And it turns out it does.

The study that’s coming up is likely to serve more as a confirmation that Earthing can positively affect high blood pressure.  Many testimonials, from thousands of people who’ve been practicing Earthing, already tell the story of significant drops in blood pressure of those grounding themselves regularly.

There are a number of physiological changes that occur once your bare skin is in contact with the Earth.  Some of these changes do have an affect on blood pressure, so the connection between Earthing and lowering high blood pressure makes a lot of sense.

Dr. Sinatra has revealed a logical explanation for the drop in blood pressure, observed in many of those grounding themselves; It’s the effect produced in the blood after grounding for as little as 30 minutes.

After 1/2 hour of Earthing (grounding) red blood cells develop something called zeta potential.  In the case of Earthing, zeta potential can be viewed as electric potential.  The zeta potential causes the red blood cells to repel each other which creates movement and thins the blood.

Clint Ober and Dr. Sinatra have observed the blood of many people under a microscope, before Earthing and after Earthing for 30 minutes.  I was fortunate enough to be in an audience once to see this test done; It’s pretty amazing.

In almost every case, the red blood cells stick together before grounding and have no definable shape.  After grounding, the red blood cells spread apart from each other and look like little discs; They look healthy.

After Earthing the blood has lower viscosity (It’s thinner), and pressure on the vessels and arteries is reduced.

There are other physiological changes, Earthing influences, that can positively impact blood pressure as well.

Normalization of cortisol levels, a switch from the sympathetic to the parasympathetic nervous system mode (Read A Calmer Nervous System Through Earthing.), better sleep, reduced inflammation and diminished pain are some of the changes the Earthing Institute has named, which may be attributable to the changes experienced in blood pressure, as a result of grounding.

The upcoming study on Earthing and Hypertension will be conducted in the Los Angeles area on participants between the ages of 30 and 80.  I’m excited to see the results of the study when they come out; and I’ll be sure to post them here.

More doctors are spreading the message about Earthing and it’s a powerful one.  There’s one Doctor who’s been spreading the message about Earthing for quite awhile now.  That’s Dr. Steven T. Sinatra.

Thick blood, as described by Dr. Sinatra doesn’t flow well.  He goes on to inform us that thick blood is typical in diabetics and people with heart disease.  Thick blood doesn’t flow well so it doesn’t deliver nutrients and oxygen as well.  It’s also more likely to lead to blood clots.

You can begin to see why thinner blood can benefit health.  The reason the blood becomes thinner when you’re Earthing, has to do with the electrons on the surface of the earth.

Dr. Mercola also described the nature of what happens with these electrons, when you touch the Earth, on the Dr. Oz show recently.  These electrons flow from the earth into your body and there’s an unlimited supply of them.

These electrons affect our physiology in a number of ways, and they give red blood cells an electrical charge called zeta potential.  This charge repels individual red blood cells from each other, making them more active, and at the same time thinning the blood.

If you look at the red blood cells of most of the population, before grounding, the cells stick together.  After Earthing for as little as 1/2 hour you can see the red blood cells move apart from each other and regain their round shape.

As Dr. Mercola states on the Dr. Oz Show, these electrons are like antioxidants.  They neutralize free radicals in the body and reduce inflammation.

Another Dr. has been appearing on the Earthing seen frequently lately, and she’s very enthusiastic about getting the message about Earthing out to the entire world.

In a person with normal cortisol, levels are low at night, which is good because a restful sleep requires the hormone to be low.  The cortisol levels of the same individual rise in the morning, and this helps them to wake up.

The Sunflower Earthing Experiment

Shop Earthing.comCould the effects of Earthing on sunflowers have implications for your own health?  As reported in Health Freedom News, sunflowers live longer in a vase of water when grounded, than ungrounded sunflowers.

If you’re familiar with Earthing, you already know it’s the practice of physically being in touch with the earth.  The practice of earthing has a number of benefits, which have been confirmed in studies and reported by the thousands of people experiencing it.

The sunflower study is yet another confirmation that earthing works, and shows it’s possible to conduct the energy of the earth from the ground to another spot, through any kind of conductive material.

At the University of Arizona, Dr. Schwartz, PhD, has been conducting his own experiments on the effects of Earthing Plants.  In his recent study, sunflowers placed in grounded vases of water, lived 10 days longer than ungrounded ones.

In the earthing study, 4 sunflowers, which all came from the same place and were picked at the same time, were placed into 4 vases of water.  The water was also from the same source.

Wires were connected to metal rods, which were placed in each of the vases containing sunflowers.  The wires were then plugged into the grounding ports of 2 different electrical outlets; The grounding ports being the 3rd hole of the electrical outlet, which is generally connected directly to the earth.

One of the ports was grounded, while the other was not actually connected to the earth.  The person conducting the experiment was unaware of which outlet was grounded, and was instructed to plug 2 wires into each outlet.

By day 7 of this earthing experiment, 2 of the sunflowers were drooping and dead;  The water in the vases of those 2 sunflowers was also cloudy and dark.

The other 2 sunflowers were alive and looked almost exactly the same as the day they were put into the vases.  The water these sunflowers were placed in was just as clean as the day the experiment began.

The sunflowers that were still alive and vibrant after 7 days were the ones that were connected to the truly grounded outlet; and they went on to live another 10 days.

This earthing experiment shows it really makes a difference to be grounded, and that you can draw the electrical energy of the earth into a building, including your home.

Earthing is free for us.  All we have to do is get our bare skin in touch with the earth and our bodies resynchronize to the earth’s electrical potential.  This is our natural state; and other studies have shown the benefits of earthing on human health.

Clint Ober, the primary author of Earthing, and the person who discovered that grounding yourself has benefits, has created a number of earthing products.

This post, about a confrontation I had the other day, will answer your question about whether or not Earthing is real, and if it’s a truly beneficial practice, that anyone can do for free.

I was doing some grocery shopping the other day and ran into a friend on my way out of the store.  I’d just seen him a few weeks before and had given him a business card about Earthing.

I said Hi and asked how he was, and received a confusing response.  He told me he was surprised by me.  I wasn’t sure what he was getting at for a minute, then Earthing popped into my head.

I asked him if he meant he’d checked out the earthing website, I’d referred him to, and if he thought it was cool.

His answer is what really got me.  “I think your website’s a bunch of fear based crap?”

What, I said, a little surprised?

“I’m surprised at you, of all people,” said Dave, “promoting fear, by trying to convince people they need something out side of themselves to be okay?”

That’s when I knew he had a misunderstanding about what Earthing was.  I asked Dave what it was about being barefoot on the earth he thought wasn’t good; and if he really believed it didn’t make a difference.

He revealed he had nothing against being barefoot, and then told me people didn’t need to be barefoot to be grounded; That he could be on top of a skyscraper with shoes on and still ground himself.

I have some voltmeter test videos, that show a change takes place on your body when you physically ground yourself, so I asked him if he’d watched the videos on my website.

This is when I found out he’d barely begun to read about Earthing and hadn’t seen the videos.  He really didn’t know too much about Earthing.  He was disturbed that I was promoting the use of Earthing Products to ground yourself indoors; and insisted people didn’t need to buy anything to get grounded.

I agreed with Dave, that anyone can get grounded for free by getting their bare skin in contact with the earth, and asked him if he really thought he could ground himself, to the same electrical potential of the earth, without physically touching it.

Dave insisted that he could, so I asked him if he wanted to do a voltmeter test on himself to see if he could really do it.  He has agreed he will, but we haven’t done that yet.

The point here, is Dave has a different definition of grounding than the one Earthing is referring to; and he hasn’t seen Earthing work, so he doesn’t understand that it’s a scientific fact; Being in contact with the Earth changes your physiology .

It’s understandable that Dave doesn’t understand Earthing at this point.  Most people, at the time of this writing, have never heard of Earthing, not to mention, seen Earthing work.  You can watch the videos I’ve made to see a voltmeter test on Earthing Sheets and Earthing Mats.
