Are the vegetarians and vegans you trust hiding their addictions from you?  Are they creating an illusion for you to try and emulate by masquerading as purists?

In this video I reveal more of my true character so you can get to know me better.  You’ll learn about what kind of an addict I am and what I’m doing about it.

I have to admit I’m a junkie.  Fortunately I’ve gotten addicted to things that aren’t as bad as the worst things one can be addicted to.

I’m confessing my addictive nature to you for more than one reason.  First of all, I want to free Myself from the ideal illusion I’ve wanted to believe I was.  Secondly, I want to empower you with the truth, so you can make more informed decisions about how you want to live your life.

Knowing I’m a vegetarian is not enough.  What kind of a vegetarian am I?  Do I do things that are considered bad for a person.  Am I healthy in spite of my addictions?

I know I’m an addict because I love a good buzz.  Coffee and other caffeinated beverages get me feeling that buzz, but it’s not without a cost; Especially when I over do it to an EXTREME degree.

I’ve struggled with different addictions for a long time, but these days I’m not struggling as much.  I think I’ve given up coffee for about 3 full years in the last 5, and I’ve also had extended periods of time without caffeinated teas and chocolate (cacao).

I’ve found I have a lot more joy in my life when I’m NOT drinking coffee or having chocolate, but I have to admit I’ve enjoyed the buzz those things give me; At least before the crash or withdrawals.

I’ve decided I don’t want to give up coffee for a year at a time anymore.  Maybe I will just stop drinking it at some point.  I’ve found a better way to deal with addictions and that’s through meditation.  I will go deeper into the subject of meditation another time.

Being an addictive person I’ve also found that some things are good to be addicted to.  The more fruit I eat the better I feel.  Fruit won’t cause you to crash and you won’t go through withdrawals if you don’t have any for a day or two.  You might miss the fruit if you don’t get it, but at least you don’t get headaches from not having it.

Will Coffee Addiction Make You Less Healthy?

This question is not so easy to answer.  It depends largely on how much you drink, and what else you put in your body.  I think it’s MORE important to see your addiction for what it is and take responsibility for the consequences it brings.

I know a lot of people become more edgy and stressed as a result of coffee consumption.  Some people say it makes them bitter.

I get a headache and become more irritable as a result of withdrawals from coffee.  I’ve even noticed my craving for coffee is associated with some craving for pain.  Weird, huh?

I have noticed my addiction to coffee never really satisfies me.  Once I’ve had some, I want more and that eventually leads to me feeling pretty bad, and still not satisfied.  That is the Nature of addiction; a bottomless pit of WANTING that is never quite fulfilled.

These things being said, I do moderate my consumption of addictive substances, and I refuse to be a slave to anything.

One thing I do appreciate about addictive substances is how they can immediately change the way you feel.  This insight shows us that what you put into your body does make a difference.  Whether it’s fruit or animal flesh it’s making a difference as well; although you might not feel the difference so profoundly at first.

Are Other Caffeinated Beverages Better For You Than Coffee?

I can say from my own experience that Yerba Mate seems to be better for me than Coffee.  I get the caffeine buzz from it, but it doesn’t leave me feeling as bad as coffee does on the down side.  This might be due to the very high concentration of BENEFICIAL minerals that are in Yerba Mate.  Although Yerba Mate is addicting, it’s probably better for you than coffee on a number of levels.

Summing things up, I’d say the less you need the more free you are.  If you’re addicted to some kind of a drug and you’ve noticed your health is not where you’d like it to be, it’s probably a good idea to quit the addiction; or at least moderate it.

Meditation with deep breathing has helped me moderate addictions and experience more joy.  I highly recommend you try it, in case you’re not already doing it.

I hope knowing me a little better is empowering to you.  Please post your comments and criticisms in relationship to coffee, caffeine, addiction or anything related to this post that you feel like expressing.

The Addicted

Use Me To Help You Decide What The Best Supplements for Vegans And Vegetarians Are!

Have you heard vegans will die if they don’t supplement?  Are you a vegetarian and worried you’re not getting enough nutrition from your foods?

Recently someone asked me If I use any Vitamin or Mineral supplements.  They read Are Vegans And Vegetarians Fit For Hard Physical Labor?, and pointed out that many trace minerals are lost through your sweat and hard to replace.

To answer this question let’s address the Vitamin B12 Debate.  Being a vegan/vegetarian for many years, I’ve had a lot of people ask me where I get my Vitamin B12.  Many people will point out that there aren’t any plant sources with Vitamin B12.

It’s true that there’s not a lot of Vitamin b12 found in plant sources, so it’s a good question.  Here’s something else to consider real quick; A large percentage of the general population, including people who eat foods from animals are Vitamin b12 deficient.  Knowing this, it’s not a bad idea to supplement with Vitamin B12, regardless of how you eat.

B12 is an essential nutrient and there are consequences for those who don’t get enough long term.  We need vitamin b12 for our bodies to synthesize protein and DNA.  So it’s pretty important.

Some vegans argue that you CAN get enough B12 from algaes like Chlorella and Spirulina, although more and more vegans supplement with Vitamin B12 to be sure they’re really getting what they need.

People who believe vegan diets are deficient say that the b12 in spirulina and chlorella is not human active.  It’s true their are b12 analogues.  Our bodies have receptor sites for b12, and these analogues look like b12 to these receptors, but they don’t do the same job as human active b12.  That means they might even block the uptake of real b12.

That being said, some companies have labels on their spirulina that indicate their spirulina has human active b12 specifically.

Regardless of whether or not a vegan can get enough b12 from their diet, I do take it for insurance.  I use a liquid form of methylcobalamin, which is one of the forms of b12 that can be easily assimilated by your body.  Avoid Cyanocobalamin if you’re supplementing.

Vegetarians who eat dairy get some b12 and those that eat eggs get even get more, but it’s still a good idea to supplement with b12 even if you eat eggs and dairy.

Most other nutrients are easy to obtain from a plant based diet, BUT…. not just any plant based diet.  A nutrient dense whole foods diet with a wide variety of plant foods included is the best.

If you eat plenty of fresh fruits, grains and beans, you’ll be covering most of your other nutrient needs pretty well.

Besides b12 I only take 2 other supplements on a regular basis.  Those are iodine and Vitamin D.  You need iodine for healthful thyroid function, and Vitamin D is absolutely essential for bone health and immunity, not to mention a whole lot of other things.

Most omnivores, herbivores and carnivores are deficient in iodine and vitamin D so chances are pretty good you’ll benefit from taking these supplements.

Supplements I use once in a while include zinc and silica.  Silica is a mineral most people can benefit from taking, but I only supplement with it here and there right now.

I also have a little magnesium as magnesium chloride every once in awhile.  Magnesium chloride is easy for the body to absorb and it’s one of the mineral salts your body can sweat out.  If you have leg cramps a little magnesium might help you.

Fortunately the right varied plant based diet has an abundance of magnesium.  Chlorella is one of the very best sources for magnesium, and greens in general are also good sources.

Summing things up, most people can benefit from SOME supplementation whether they are vegans, vegetarians, or omnivores.

I believe in simplicity and try to get most of my nutrients from food.  Nutrients in their food states are usually the easiest for your body to recognize and utilize.

If there is any doubt in your mind about whether you need to supplement or not you should probably get some blood work done.  I plan on doing that in the near future because I’m curious, and it’s a good part of my own experiment on myself.

Up to this point I’ve been vegan or vegetarian since 1996 and I feel great and perform well.  I have been a minimalist as far as supplementation is concerned but I still think it’s wise to know for sure, and that’s why I’ll be getting my own tests done soon.

For now I’ll continue to eat a lot of fresh fruits, fresh and cooked vegetables, beans and grains, and any other whole foods that I like to get most of my nutrients.  How about you?

Afterthought: Many smart vegans and vegetarians get an abundance of most of the nutrients they need for optimal health.

Will Eating A Diet Of Plant Based Foods Cause You To Fail At Hard Physical Tasks?

Maybe your a vegetarian and you’re questioning whether or not you can do hard manual labor.  Maybe you’re just curious about vegans and vegetarians; Can a person really do physically demanding labor on a plant based diet?

I’m here to let you know, I’ve got the answers.  This article is not based on any scientific study.  It’s my own experience following a plant based diet since 1996.  That’s 17 years of experience at the time of this writing.

The quick answer to whether a person can endure hard physical labor as a vegetarian is a resounding YES!  Let me expand on this a little now.

During the 17 years I’ve been a vegetarian I’ve worked a variety of physically demanding jobs, and I’ve been back and forth between following a strict vegetarian diet (vegan), and a not so strict vegetarian diet.  The not so strict vegetarian diet involves me eating some cream, milk, cheese or yogurt; No eggs.

I worked many years as a bellman in a busy hotel carrying heavy bags all sorts of places.  I’ve also did deep tissue massage as my only job for periods of time.  I was even a hod carrier for my uncle’s mason business for a few months.

Hod carriers mix mortar, and haul it and bricks to the brick layers.  You have to keep a good pace so the brick layers can keep their work pace.  It gets you a good workout.

My most recent work in hard manual labor just ended last week.  I worked for a landscape designer.  During the 2 weeks I worked with him the temperature was consistently between 90 and 100 Fahrenheit.

We wheelbarrowed approximately 90,000 pounds of rock, and spread it out.  We wheelbarrowed and spread an additional 4 dump truck loads of mulch and dirt.

During this time, I ate almost exclusively fruit during the 8 hour days of work, and drank an average of more than a gallon of water every day while at work.

Here’s what’s great.  I never got one complaint that I wasn’t performing quickly enough; In fact, I was thanked more than a few times for my very hard work.

I’m not sharing this with you so you can say “Wow Sye!  You sure are amazing!”  I want you to know you can do whatever anyone else can do as a vegetarian, and do it well.  You might even be able to do your job better than the average hard worker that’s not a vegetarian.

I think it’s also important to state, I’m feeling a lot more healthy and physically fit after doing the landscaping job than I did before.  It didn’t break my body down and injure it; Doing the hard physical labor encouraged my body to build more muscle mass.  It also helped me to sweat a lot, which can be a very good thing if you’re putting more good stuff back into it.

It’s a good way to replace all your fluids with fresh fluids.  That’s why fruit and water during hard physical labor is so nice.  You get water, not only from drinking, but from the fruits as well.  The fruits have also have electrolyte minerals and plenty of vitamins.  Your body can digest them easy so you don’t end up feeling that after lunch sleepy feeling.

Contrary to some popular LOW Carbohydrate Diet Dogma you may have heard, carbohydrates are very good for you, especially when you are burning a lot of energy.  Your body’s primary fuel source is carbohydrates and fruit is an excellent source of that energy.

People can adjust to low carbohydrate diets, but at the expense of losing their explosive energy.  Explosive energy is what you need to do sprints or other intense exercises.

Should A Person Eat Fruits Alone When Doing Physically Demanding Work?

Fruits are a great source of energy and I especially like them for convenience and quick energy that’s easy for your body to digest.  I don’t think it’s good to rely exclusively on fruits however.  I eat a lot more fruit when I’m doing physically demanding work, but I also eat other good high carbohydrate whole foods.

After physically demanding work in the hot sun, I usually felt like having some more sweet liquid.  One good after work drink I really enjoy is the following.

Juice 1 whole grapefruit and 1 whole orange.
Throw the juice in a high powered blender like a Vitamix with a little filtered water.
Add 1 whole tray of Ice and 4-5 tablespoons of honey.
Blend until super smooth.

This will feel like the best drink of your life when you’re really thirsty on a warm day.

For dinner, after hard physical labor I usually have some cooked whole grains and/or beans, or some cooked vegetables with a little flax oil and some seasoning.  A nice heaping plate full is a good serving.  Add the flax oil to your food after it’s on your plate.

My breakfast every morning was a green smoothie with bananas and greens.  Don’t be shy about eating 4-5 bananas in your smoothie.  Most people don’t’ really understand how much calories they need and that’s why they think they can’t live on a vegan or vegetarian diet.

Most people are used to eating a bunch of fat calories from various oils in their foods, and when they aren’t getting the calories from fat anymore, they need to replace them with a more healthful source of energy (carbohydrates).

As I always say, it’s not just any vegetarian/vegan diet that works; You’ve got to focus on eating a variety of plant based whole foods.  Those are the foods that cover most of your nutritional needs.

Tough Mudder As A VegetarianI’m the guy to the left in this picture.  Just finished a Tough Mudder with some Meat Eating Relatives.  Ask them if I can hang with them as a Vegetarian.  I’m So Hard!

Now you know that a plant based eater can perform well doing hard labor; and you’ve got a good outline of how to do it yourself.  I have a program I’m relaunching soon, called Sexy Fit.  It’s updated with what I’ve learned since I originally released it.  Be sure you’re signed up HERE to get my program free when it’s ready.  After launch it won’t be free anymore, so sign up now.

Earthing Sheet Care

Getting The Most Life Out Of Your Earthing Sheets

Whether you have the Earthing Half Sheet, Fiited Earthing Sheets, Or a Recovery Bag caring for your Earthing Sheets is simple if you follow the guidelines laid out here.

You probably also want to know how long you can expect your grounding sheets to last.  You’ll be happy to know, your questions are answered on this page.

Laundering Your Grounding Sheets

To wash your Earthing sheets follow the guidelines below.

  1. Do not use bleach, or detergent with bleach, when you launder your sheets.
  2. Do not use any type of fabric softener in the washer or dryer.
  3. Do not apply any oils, creams or lotions to any part of your body
that will be in contact with your Earthing sheet, close to the time you lie down on your sheet
  4. Do not dry clean your sheet

The chemicals in the products listed above can oxidize and damage, or
destroy, the conductivity of the silver in your earthing sheets.

Make sure to wash your grounding sheet with the warm or medium heat setting.  You will also want to dry it on medium heat; or hang dry it if you prefer.

Try to wash your sheet about 1 time per week.

How Long Will MY Earthing Sheet Last?

If you follow the instructions above you can expect your Earthing Sheet to last for up to 3 years.  Some people’s Earthing sheets still work well beyond the 3 year mark.  It really depends on how well you follow the instructions listed above.

Some people think washing their sheet more often will wear it out faster.  This is NOT the case with official Earthing Sheets; Washing them more often is better than washing them occasionally.  When you wash them more often it prevents build up of body oils on the sheets.  Body oils can decrease your Earthing sheet’s conductivity the same way other oils can, so it’s good to wash it more often than not enough, to keep those body oils from accumulating on your sheet.

Washing your sheet about 1 time per week as outlined above is ideal for most people.
