Things to help you smile!

Things To Help You SmileThis is the Doggy Lama.  His picture is on the wall in front of my desk.  He was my Father and Mother in Law’s dog, and as you can probably see he’s a Dachshund.  If you look into his eyes and let him look back into yours you’ll know everything is going to be okay.  Ha ha!
May peace, joy and happiness be with you all of the days of your life.

Welcome to my Blog.  It is my hope you will find the answers to many questions in these pages.  Health, Wealth, Happiness, Truth, and Humor are some of the things I am interested in.

For you to know who I am there are a few things you should know about me.  I am an open minded person.  That being stated, I must give credit for my successes where I believe they are due.  The words and life of Jesus are the foundation of the good in me I have to share.  It is not my intention to preach.

In stating these facts, I suspect some people will make assumptions about me; both positive and negative.  If you get to know me you may be disappointed or pleasantly surprised, depending on where you are coming from; as I am in no way conventional, by my own standards.

Whoever you are and wherever you are coming from, it is my quest to offer you the best of the information available on the subjects I write about.  I hope you enjoy what you find here.  Be sure to sign up for my emails so I can keep you posted on the latest and best information I have found and am to find.

May these pages also be an inspiration for you to find the best inside of you; and may we help each other to Live That Awesome Dream.

Keep Dreaming,

Sye Rodriguez

Make Your Own Food Bars

I personally think they taste better than most of the food bars I’ve had anywhere.

We made them with and without water. They taste best to me without adding water and dehydrating them; and they’re ready a lot faster.

You can experiment and see what you think. The recipe is below. Where it says 2 possibilities of ingredients that is exactly what it means. You can use one ingredient or the other using the same measurements.

Ingredients
3/4 cup almonds or cashews partially blended
3/4 cup pecans or coconut partially blended
3/4 cup oats partially blended
1/2 cup chia seeds finely ground in the blender
1/2 cup protein powder ( I personally like the Sun Warrior or Warrior Food – You can click the banner adds on this page for both of them to see what they are about.)
1/2 cup honey
1 and 1/4 cups water, if you’re going to use a dehydrator

Some of the ingredients say partially blended. All that means is leave some chunks for texture. It’s still good if part of those ingredients are finely blended.

Combine all of the blended ingredients in a large bowl with the protein powder. If you’re using the dehydrator method add your water and honey. If you’re doing the fast version add only the honey.

Dehydrator Version
Mix all of the ingredients together well. Spoon out into your dehydrator trays, flattened like cookies. Set the temperature to 115 degrees and turn on. Let them dry for 24 to 36 hours depending on how moist you would like them to be. If you want to store them long term you’ll want them really dry. The alternative to storing them really dry is freezing them in an air tight container.

Quick Version
Mix all of the ingredients together well. Once you’ve got the honey mixed in with a spoon you’ll want to finish mixing them with your clean dried hands. Once all of the ingredients are nicely mixed, you can roll pieces into balls or flatten the mass of ingredients out, and cut it into bars. With this version they are ready to eat immediately. They will store well in an sealed, plastic container, refrigerated for a good while – at least one week. If you want to store them long term, put them in an airtight container in the freezer and take some out when desired. A gallon size, zip lock storage bag works good for freezer storing.

Enjoy!

As you may know, if you’ve been reading our website or watching our videos, we’ve been doing a new challenge every 30 days.  It’s been a great experience and given us a lot of insight.  The last 2 months challenges for me were 30 days with no stimulants and 30 days of getting up at the same time every morning.  The stimulants I gave up included all forms of caffeine including that found in chocolate.  Today I want to share with you some of what I’ve learned from these challenges and how they’ve benefited my life; and can benefit yours too.  I will also share my new 30 day challenges; I’m doing more than one this month.

So what did I learn from getting up at the same time every morning and getting out of bed immediately?  To answer this question let’s look at where I was at before.  Everyday I would wake up, whenever I felt like I had slept long enough, or felt too guilty to stay in bed any longer.  I usually tried to get at least 8 hours of sleep.  It should be known, I would stay up late doing things I thought were important, and I didn’t have any limit on how late I would go to bed; or how early in the morning.  When the time came to get up in the morning I would lie in bed for awhile thinking about what I needed to do first.  The longer I laid there the more confused I became about what my priorities were.  This is part of the reason I knew I needed to change something.

I set my alarm for the same time every morning, which happened to be considerably earlier than my average wake up “times.”  I made the commitment to jump out of bed immediately upon hearing the alarm and get on with my day.  I completed the challenge, even with a time change in the middle of it.  This was the daylight savings time change, so it pushed my commitment to an hour earlier than my original commitment.  Yeah, I know, everyone does this, so no big deal right?

Getting up without hesitation was one of the greatest benefits for me.  It wasn’t easy at first, but mentally it put me light years ahead of where I was.  Magically, I’m not dwelling on what to do in the morning anymore.  I’m up, my blood starts to flow and before long, I’m doing the things I need to; and doing considerably more with an improved outlook and confidence.

The confidence is one of the greatest benefits of challenges in general.  Once you’ve kept you word to yourself and made it through a couple of challenges you’re entire character transforms.  In addition you realize how much you can change, even by taking  things on one at a time.  I personally find myself taking a lot more stuff on “in the moment” as opposed to procrastinating.

Getting up at the same time has also put more order in my life.  It’s not surprising, it’s easier to know how much I can accomplish, as I see how the day unfolds from a more consistent perspective.  Seeing these positive changes is exciting and gets me thinking about what else I’ve wanted to change and haven’t.

A new perspective has taken over since getting up consistently at the same time.  My overall attitude is plain better.  Yes, I still stay up too late sometimes and feel a little under rested, but that’s adjusting as well.  I’m not hung up on the 8 hours of sleep idea anymore; I still think 8 or more hours of sleep is a good idea, but it feels good to know I’m not a slave to it.

Getting up at the same time has lead me right into one of my next 30 day challenges, which is to get up an hour earlier than I have been.  I’ve already started it, and after 3 days it’s doesn’t even seem like a challenge anymore; It feels more like a gift to myself.  I like the idea of trading those extra hours I stayed up at night for morning hours.  From the experience up to this point it seems the morning hours, although different, are better spent.  I find myself meditating and stretching first thing most mornings, which seems to be contributing to more clarity and better decisions throughout the day.

I’m going to fill you in on the other new challenges in a minute, but first I want to give a little more insight into challenges.  I have gained insight from 2 different people on ways of doing and perceiving these kinds of challenges.  The first way is to view a habit as taking 21 days to make or break.  With this method you can start or stop any habit at the beginning of each month.  After 3 weeks you’ve set the new habit in motion and you have a week to think about your next one.  Doing this method, you can expect to have 12 solid new habits in 1 year.

The second method of doing these kinds of challenges is the one I prefer.  You commit to doing or not doing something for 30 days and follow through with it.  At the end of 30 days you can keep it or trash it depending on whether you find it beneficial or not.  I personally think the psychology of this way is very effective for some people, because it’s not forever.  Having a way out can make it a lot more fun.  You can always keep it going if you want, but you have the freedom to decide; This is empowerment.

Here’s an example of what I did after my first 30 day challenge and where I’m taking that now.  I started out with giving up stimulants for 30 days, as mentioned in the beginning of this article.  After the challenge was over I didn’t have any caffeine immediately but did after a few days or so.  The first was green tea in the form of yerba mate.  I did it in a binge and stopped.  The next was coffee which I had twice for 2 or 3 day periods at a time.

I’ve noticed the coffee has more negative effects on me than other stimulants.  I’m not sure what it feels like to be exposed to nuclear fallout, but I’m pretty sure it feels the same as I feel after drinking 3 cups of coffee for 3 days in a row. Ha ha!  My nerves were fried and tense and I could almost feel my hair turning gray.  I know it’s not the same for everyone so don’t let me disturb you and your coffee habit.  I can definitely relate to it’s appeal.  That’s why I’m making a new challenge with it as well.

I won’t be drinking any coffee for one whole year; The year began on March 26, 2011.  The great thing is, my first 2 “30 day challenges” gave me the confidence to do this and I’m even exited about it.  I said I was doing challenges this month.  The first was getting up an hour earlier every day, the second is the coffee for one whole year, and the third is to make a new recipe every day for the next 30 days.  I’m going to turn the recipe challenge into a new book.  How’s that for motivating?

What’s your challenge going to be?  I bet you have something you’ve been wanting to do that you haven’t begun yet.  Here’s your permission to go and do it.

So what is the purpose of this writing?  It is both to encourage you to begin and give you some support for when it seems you have undertaken something to difficult for you to complete.
We live in a time of rapid change.  Information comes to us so quick it can be overwhelming to try an process it all.  Our inboxes of our email accounts are often overloaded with titles begging for our attention.  In addition, with this information overload, one of the biggest changes many people are seeing is in the way we work or in many cases don’t work; Unemployment is high and more so than the media reports.  The main stream media doesn’t account for the people who haven’t applied for unemployment benefits or the people’s benefits that have run out.  Unemployment is not what this writing is about though.
As a result of these changing times comes a lot of stress about where you’re income is going to come from.  That’s what makes it a great time to be creative and make products that are useful to other people.  That’s what this post is about; You making your own products that give value to other people’s lives.  That’s where I come in saying it takes more than a good idea to create something of value.
To give a better understanding of this let’s look at where I was, and what it took to make something I could sell to other’s, that provides them some kind of value.  For many years I wanted to write a book.  A book about my adventurous life or health for example.  I had been told by many people, close to me, I should write a book about my life, because of how different it was from any sort of normal life.  I also knew a lot about health.
I thought to myself, for many years, when I read or learned about someone else’s health protocol, that I knew something they didn’t, or I could make something even better.  It took a long time, but finally I set out to do it.  Notice I didn’t say I decided to do it.  I had decided for many years I was going to do it, but that never made it happen.
So I started, and that’s when all of the real trouble began.  What exactly should I write about?  Health is where my primary knowledge base is, but what about health specifically?  These questions and multiples like it bombarded me.  That would have been enough to make me give up, if I wasn’t determined, but it got even more difficult and humbling as I continued on with the challenge.
I began to realize I didn’t know as much as I thought I did.  Sure I had a great general understanding of the subject, but putting that understanding into words that other people could translate into practical solutions for their own lives, was far more difficult than I had anticipated.  Still I continued on.  I started a book, but it didn’t feel true, so I refocused and started again.  Eventually I had to do some deep searching to find out what was truly inside of me.
This is the first step, to see what is inside of you and what inspires you.  The task of finding that passion alone, is a good challenge to take on.  What inspires you and why?  It’s good to write a list of these things before you even begin trying to create something.  Once you run into challenges, you’ll want to know why you started down the path in the first place, and that it’s worth it.
After you’ve got a basic understanding of what your passions and ideas are, you’ll want to know what kind of competition your up against.  Please don’t let the competition stop you; Remember there are always people out there that know less about a subject than you, and they can be your audience.
Just for the sake of understanding what kind of competition there is, let me make a suggestion, based upon the following statement.  “Good ideas that haven’t been thought of like .com website names, with 1 or 2 words, that haven’t been taken.”  To see what I’m talking about go to Godaddy and search for a website name.  Think of any word or 2 words you can put together in anyway that sounds good to you at all, and see if you can find one that’s not taken.  If you find one you like, you might want to purchase the domain name, because it’s rare to find one.  Doing this kind of searching was revelatory for me, because it gave me an understanding of how many people are hard at work, capturing any idea they think might possibly be worth something to them.
Now that you know there’s a lot of competition out there, decide how you are going to provide quality that’s valuable to others.  If you do something at a high quality level, you’ll be ahead of some of your competition from the start.  If you know you create the best of your particular specialty, get right on to creating it.
Once you’re beginning to create, you’re going to want an outlet to deliver those creations to others.  A lot of people are finding the internet a great way to get exposure to lots of people.  We know there are close to 7 billion people in the world and many of them use the internet.  That number is only going to grow in time.  How to get your creations exposed to those people is at least one big book, and could be many books.
There’s also the possibility of using radio or word of mouth for local distribution of your goods.  You can even work out of your home.  Whatever your primary method of getting your products in front of people will be, it’s a good idea to get started on the promoting part before you have your product completed.  I learned this the hard way by creating a book before finding an audience I knew wanted to read it.
Ask people if they are interested in your creation.  Create a survey.  Find out who would like to buy from you now.  This is going to make it a whole lot easier to sell your product once you’ve made it.  I’m going to wrap this up for now; Maybe I’ll write some more on this subject if I see a strong interest generated by readers.
I want to leave you with the following:  Even though it’s not easy, creating things is a very rewarding process and can lead to more freedom in your life; Your creations could possibly provide you enough income to live on.  Everyone is unique.  Your particular lot in life gives you a unique perspective that no else has exactly.  Use that to your advantage and remember; What you know, has value for others.  Start down the path of doing the things you’ve always dreamed of doing.  If you don’t start, you’ll always wonder, What if?  When you do start it may be challenging but you’ll grow from those challenges.  You’ll see reality more clearly at least, and maybe you’ll open up the door to living the life you’ve always dreamed of.

Source Code Trailer

If you’ve found yourself reading this passage, hold onto your self tight.  You’ve entered into another dimension and it’s known as the “Source Code.”  Jake Gyllenhaal (Captain Stevens) exists here, as in the reality you lived in up till now, but he’s another person, or maybe 2.  Since his early stardom in American Pie, Jake’s transformed into another being you’re not so familiar with.  Don’t worry, everything is going to be okay.

Before I entered the “Source Code” I was looking at a website reading a review about the movie.  I thought I knew who I was, but I hadn’t seen the movie yet.  The movie critic, who did the review, gave the “Source Code” 4 stars;  That was in another reality; One I was yet to enter.

The beautiful Michelle Monaghan (Christina), had not been fully illuminated before my eyes before I entered the “Source Code.”  Michelle plays a role of the person you always knew was out there, but almost lost hope in ever finding.  Duncan Jones, who directed the film, and writer Ben Ripley knew you’d been searching for Christina (Michelle) and wanted you to make the connection.

Jake is not who you thought he was, and that’s probably a good thing for him.  His acting skills become him in the “Source Code;” as you will become You.  Not the you who’s reading this review right now; The You who you are after the “Source Code” has been implemented.

More than honorable mentions in the film are Goodwin (Vera Farmiga) and Dr. Walter Rutledge (Jeffrey Wright).  Whether it was the “Source Code” that brought their skills out or it existed somewhere within them is yours to ponder over.  It’s sure, however, they both play the roles any film star must envy.

If you’ve been waiting for a good movie to get you out of the house, wait no more.  I’m not getting paid to tell you this, but if you don’t like this film, there’s a glitch somewhere in your circuitry.  I would tell you more than I have already, but that might destroy the beauty for you.  Don’t worry.  Everything is going to be okay.  You’ll understand after you’ve entered the “Source Code!”

Entered the “Source Code” on April 1st, 2011, 21:05 Real Time.

Sye Rodriguez gave this movie 4 1/2 stars.

Can Marijuana Cure Cancer?

Can Marijuana Cure Cancer?

The video, Run From the Cure, can be viewed above this aritlce.

Could the illegal plant marijuana contain a substance that puts cancer into remission?  A man by the name of Rick Simpson says it can, and it looks like he’s got the proof.  He has a following of people testifying, his hemp oil is the reason their cancer is gone.  We’re not talking about the hemp oil that comes from the seeds.  The oil referred to is, the THC containing extraction, from the marijuana buds.

In the video, Run From The Cure, written and directed by Rick Simpson, Rick shows how to make the medicinal oil from the marijuana flowers.  He states in the video that smoking marijuana is not going to give the same benefits of ingesting the oil.  In the case of basal cell carcinoma, a form of skin cancer, the supporters of the oil claim the cancer can be put into remission by applying the oil topically, for as little as 3-4 days.  If it really works this could have dramatic effects on the cancer industry; Effects the cancer industry may not be so exited about.

The cancer industry benefits from the sell of drugs, including chemotherapy drugs, and some of the people who work in the industry claim these drugs account for about 80% of the profits made.  In the video associated with this article, some of the cancer industry’s workers were questioned about the state of the cancer industry’s business.  The answers reflected things are going pretty well.  There’s no doubt a lot of people in the cancer industry could be out of a job if the marijuana oil does what people are saying it does.

The big manufacturers of pharmaceutical drugs would be one of the other industries hit the hardest by evidence that the THC containing oil truly does what it’s proponents are saying it does.  The implications are so great, it could even start a health revolution.  If people get the idea this plant, that’s had a war against it for so long, might be able to help them get rid of cancer, with minimal negative side effects, they might loose faith in the pharmaceutical industry all together, and take responsibility for their own health, or at least look to more natural remedies.

There’s information supporting the idea that a person with cancer is likely to live longer by doing nothing than taking chemotherapy drugs;  This is specifically true with certain forms of cancer.  Some doctors say you increase your risk of getting other cancers as a result of undergoing chemotherapy.  If it’s true that marijuana oil can cure cancer, it will surely get a lot of supporters, as it can be tolerated in large quantities with almost no risk of serious injury or death, and some of the side effects being smiles and increased appetite.

In addition to the legal issues surrounding marijuana, a person considering it’s use needs to be clear, it’s not without side effects.  If you smoke it you congest your lungs and are susceptible to all of the consequences associated with the tar created by the process.  I personally believe it’s not good to inhale any kind of smoke including that from a camp fire.  As far as marijuana’s use goes, the most benefits with the least negatives would come from ingesting it, in a form that makes it’s THC bioavailable.

Anyone considering ingesting marijuana oil should also consider a few other thoughts:

You can become addicted to marijuana.  Although there is a lot of debate around this issue, anything that changes your chemistry can become a habit and be difficult to let go of.

It’s probably beneficial to be free from medicine or anything that potentially enslaves you.  This goes back to the previous consideration about not becoming dependent on something to function normally.  Learning how to be truly healthy in a natural way can alleviate most symptoms of dis ease in your life.  It’s about your body functioning optimally and not being dependent on something that may cause imbalances.

There are many other possible side effects, including short term memory loss and impaired motor skills; Marijuana may also aggravate symptoms of those with existing psychotic disorders.

The main benefit of marijuana possibly having the potential to cure some forms of cancer, may be in the insight this discovery offers.  If it does cure cancer, it will more than likely, draw attention to the amazing power of plants.  People may be inspired to grow their own medicinal herbs of all types, and give more credit to foods in general, for their ability to heal or cause disease, depending on what types of foods they are.

People may also begin to educate themselves, more than they currently do, on the subject of taking responsibility for their own health.  We may even break free from the dogmas of big pharmaceutical and chemical companies of today, that make more people sick than well.

I personally believe one of the top things you can do, to heal and keep yourself healthy, is eat a nutritionally dense, plant based diet.  If you run into a snag along the way, and need a little assistance, a good plant extract may help get you back on track.

The Answer to Gluten Intolerance or Celiac Disease

Wheat Free, Gluten Free; You’ve heard it by now.  All of these people who have allergies to wheat and sensitivities to gluten.  The extreme of gluten sensitivities being celiac disease.

The celiac condition makes gluten intolerable to the person affected by it.  When a person with gluten sensitivity is exposed to gliadin, a gluten protein, a set of reactions is set in motion, leading to inflammation of the small bowel; This leads to a condition called villous atrophy, making it difficult for the small intestine to absorb nutrients.

Some of the symptoms are extreme stomach discomfort, vomiting, diarrhea, bloating, low attention span and fatigue.  Severe issues can arise for the long term suffer, such as damage to the intestine and gut; leading to malabsorption of nutrients, causing extreme weight loss and the inability to gain weight.  If nothing is done the condition can lead to cancer of the small bowel and small intestine; and loss of bone mineral density, among other complications.

If you or someone you know fits this description, you’ve probably been directed by your local grocer or doctor to the gluten free section; or been given a list of gluten free foods.  It’s a great relief, I’m sure to be free from the symptoms you were experiencing when consuming foods with gluten.

There can be a downside to this gluten free lifestyle, however.  That downside is found in the many gluten free branded products.  Their are some quality items to be found with the gluten free label, but a lot of times, products labeled this way are super refined foods with all of the additives and preservatives found in the low quality foods so many people consume without thinking about it.  Thinking in terms of eating gluten free is not the answer if you wish to achieve optimal health.  There is an alternative way to understand your condition and get relief from the symptoms; and it’s simple.

There are only a few foods that contain gluten.  They are Wheat, Barley, Rye, triticale, kamut (Khorasan wheat) and spelt.  Triticale, kamut and spelt are forms of wheat, but they are not used in most commercially produced foods.  The first key in dealing with gluten sensitivity is to eliminate these foods from your diet.  Once you’ve done that you can eat whatever you want.  There is a catch however.  A great number of processed foods contain some form of these gluten containing grains in them.  The answer to this issue is, first, become a label reader.

Read all of the ingredients on the packages of the foods you buy.  This is a great practice because it makes you more aware of what you are eating.  It’s truly amazing how many additives and preservatives there are in many of the conventional foods available at your local grocery store.  Many of these ingredients are not health promoting and some are, straight up, bad for you.

Knowing what you’re eating is going to take you a long way, and that leads us right into the next step to help you on your path to optimal health.  Become a primarily whole foods consumer.  Yes, it’s true; Fruits, veggies; including those from the sea, nuts, seeds, beans and even grains are good for you.  Quinoa, millet, amaranth, buckwheat, rice and oats have many health benefits.  Eating plenty of your vegetables fresh and raw is a key component.

A lot of people are concerned about oats because of cross contamination.  Oats don’t contain any gluten, but in conventional farming, the same equipment used to harvest wheat is often used to harvest oats.  There are growers, who specifically grow for people with gluten sensitivities, so you can buy their products, without any concern.

You can help heal your gut by getting a good source of probiotics.  Fermented foods are one of the best ways to get your probiotics.  There are a number of good supplements available at quality health food stores, as well.

In your search for health, you’ll find more and more information supporting the fact that a plant based diet, with plenty of fresh raw foods, will help solve many of the issues with dis-ease; and put you on the path to optimal health.

For a person who’s ready to take responsibility for their health, the narrow world of prescriptions and special diets dissolves, and a broader horizon awaits.  For the gluten intolerant or celiac, you are now free to eat anything you want except for foods containing wheat, barley, rye, kamut, and triticale.  Everything else is naturally gluten free.
